not as good as its predecessor. (2010-04-08)
I've purchased Clarks sandals for nearly a decade. About ten years ago, I stumbled upon a Clarks sandal that fit me absolutely perfectly - comfortable right out of the box. They were so comfortable and fit so well, that I could actually jog several miles in them without the slightest difficulty. When they got long in the tooth, and knowing that styles change and companies go out of business, I bought three replacement pairs of that issue of the Clarks Sandal.
Last year when the last of those three pair finally expired, I saw the Hudson advertised at Amazon. Thinking this was the sandal I had grown accustomed to, I purchased two pair.
To my disappointment, they were not quite (almost, but not quite) as well fitting as the previous edition. I think that stems from the fact that Clarks changed the design of the rear strap. On the older style, I could position my foot exactly over the center of the sole of the sandal (using the front straps) and then snug up the rear strap for a perfect fit. With this new design, there's a limit to how far you can pull the rear strap in. To get the same snug feel, I now have to tighten the two front straps, but this causes my foot to come too far back on the sole for optimal comfort.
In another review, I read that a trip to a shoe maker to adjust the strap helped overcome a similar problem. I suppose, if the rear strap were shortened and the ends nicely stitched off, my problem would be solved. But then these sandals would have cost me more than the $79 and change advertised here.
I'll try another brand first (this time at a shoe store). If no other maker comes close, then I'll be back to Clarks.
Lastly, when I purchased the orininal set of three (and the pair I started with), they were still made in England. Not anymore, if that matters...
My second pair, also! (2009-10-14)
This is my second pair of the Clark's Hudson sandal. My first pair which I purchased on vacation at a shop is not three years old and wearing very well - not close to wearing out. I recently realized that I am wearing them most of the time and knew I would need a new pair soon - for looks if not for condition. I searched online sellers and Gabriel Shoes/Amazon had the best price. Shipping was quick. The sandals have minor cosmetic differences than my older pair and are very attractive. I like the fact that you can adjust all the straps. The velcro makes adjustment and taking off and on very easy.
Comfortable and durable.... (2009-09-21)
I gave these to my son last week for a birthday present. This is his second pr. The first pair lasted 7 summers. He likes the removable strap and finds them very comfortable. He is pleased with the fit (wears 10.5 and I got size 11 since they did not have his exact size. Thank you Amazon for another great bargain!

The Clark's Men's Hudson Sandal I purchased are the most comfortable and versitile
footwear I have owned in a long time. My wife swears by Clark's and now I do too. They can be worn with or without the backstrap, which is removable, the footbed is leather and the sole absorbs your stride. I didn't know they made men's products until I did a search on Amazon.com. My highest praise.
almost perfect (2009-08-10)
The Clarks Men's Hudson Sandal is almost perfect. The insole is well padded and supportive as well as correctly shaped to my feet. I have worn these sandals on many long walks including hikes in the woods. My only problem concerns the strap which extends over the top of the wearer's foot. This strap did not secure completely when it was pulled tight because it did not have enough velcro type material to make complete contact. I had a shoe repair shop correct this problem by sewing additional velcro on that strap. I expect a wearer with a very high instep would not require this repair. With this minor inexpensive repair, these really are perfect sandals.
